General Purpose

The general purpose is to ensure everyone in the company complies with health and safety laws and establishing policies that will create and maintain a safe workplace.

As a safety manager you must have excellent attention to detail to identify hazards and risk. You will also be able to discover opportunities for improving conditions and execute various safety programs. The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential.

The goal is to ensure the workplace meets all legal expectations and actively supports occupational health and safety.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines

  • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety

  • Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law

  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention

  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations

  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions

  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims

  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures

  • Monitor all HSE procedures and recommend strategies to avoid all accidents and implement all health and safety hazards for all sites.

  • Monitor all conservation and protection programs and maintain hygiene at facility at all times

  • Design and implements safety programs for designated company or workspace.

  • Run informational meetings for employees regarding proper health and safety habits and procedures at work.

  • Recommend ways to improve health and safety in the workplace.

  • Investigate on-the job incident/accident including on-site accidents and write up reports detailing health and safety issues and provide recommendation.

  • Presents reports and suggestions for improvement to company Management.

  • Responds to on-site emergencies and accidents.

  • Identify hazards or faults that caused the accident and devise strategic plan to remedy those problems.

  • Monitors work place on a daily basis to ensure all activity meets safety compliance.

  • Conducts official audits

  • Recruits and train new safety officials to assist in audits and other oversight

Education and Training

  • BSc/BA in safety management or relevant field is preferred

  • Valid qualification in occupational health and safety

  • Mnium of 5 years’ experience in an industrial organization dealing with safety issues

Knowledge and Experience

  • Excellent user of MS Word, Excel, power point

  • Excellent Administrator

  • Proven experience as safety manager

  • Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines

  • Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies

  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment

  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills

  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities

Core Competencies

  • Work from 8am to 5pm – Monday to Friday and Saturdays 4 hours. Additional hours may be required towards completing delayed/pending tasks, No over time for such work.

  • Peron will be requirement to travel between office locations in attend meeting with staff and management.

  • Must be physically fit and heathy without any medical conditions that will affect productivity

  • Must be available at all times for emergency calls regarding accidents and incidents on site or on the job.

  • Must have a valid Driver’s licenses

Salary looking at K80,000.00 negotiable. Salary packaging is available (40% of the gross can be packaged towards school fees, airfare and accommodation). Medical Insurance Scheme available where its deductible from the employee. Employee/Employer contribute to superannuation after completing 3 months of service.
