Reporting To (Title): To Power Generator Engineer

Primary objective of the job:

An electrical technician who specializes in performing electrical maintenance, repair and

installation. Performs preliminary assessment ensuring it’s in good working condition.

Number of persons managed/supervised and their positions:

NIL

Main Duties and Responsibilities: (maximum of 10 duties)

  • Must be compliant and understand to follow and maintain Electrical Wiring Rules to AS/NZ 3000 Wiring Rules and PNG Power Limited Regulations & Rules for all

  • Electrical Works.

  • Making sure all Electrical Appliance and Apparatus within the BML or WRC Faculties are safe and compliant to Electrical Standards

  • Reporting to the Team Leader of the Power Generation Leader and Business Leaders for any queries and support to supporting the business in the Power Generation to WRC and customers to BML

  • Provide advice for Generator side procurement and electrical load calculation to Salesman and Managers for customer to procure correct Generator

  • Carryout site assessment and evaluation for any Electrical Works relating to Service Callouts, Repairs, applying correct safe electrical working procedures and skills to verifying and rectifying electrical issues and failures.

  • Fully conscious to maintaining Electrical Safe Working Practices to check for Dead-Live-Dead Test, de-energizing and energizing of electrical equipment, complete isolation procedures (LOTO) and NFPA70E Electrical Labors

  • Fully conscious with sober habits to work as team player and must train & supervise fellow apprentice and junior tradesman to the best Electrical Standards.

  • Provide technical identification and description of deficiencies ranging from concerns to critical issues that correct measures and process to rectify is done to AS3000 Electrical Standards.

  • Able to assess Standalone Generator or Project Installation, provide best Electrical support to giving methodology of Electrical Scope and Timeline, with Engineering support to Design, Drawing of Wirings and all associated works and costings.

  • Identify recommendations for correction and describe, in sufficient technical detail, for future project planning and cost estimating.

  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks such as Electrical mechanics and load testing

  • Test systems for efficiency and output, report defects and recommend with actions and corrective actions to take.

  • Fully understand Generator and Automatic Transfer Switch Controller Panel Configuration and Wiring System

  • Diagnose and repair problems with generators, transfer switches, switchgear and other mechanical and electrical equipment.

 

Requirements:

  • Electrical Engineering or Trade certificate from a qualified NATTB approved institution

  • Must be a qualified tradesman with 3 years experience in a similar job /environment

  • High School grade 12 Certificate

 

Functional Skills:

  • Complex problem-solving skills

  • Must have strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Advance knowledge of modern vehicular electrical systems

  • You are self-motivated and able to work well independently in a fast-paced environment

  • Works safely with minimal supervision.

  • Flexible with shift work and weekends.

  • Have sound knowledge for Power Generator Preventive Maintenance & Service Practice and SOP to Product and Factory Standards.

  • Team player driving Health, Safety and environmental care with sound knowledge of JSA, JSO and HSSE standards.

External: Company’s major clients & customers and NOGs.
